Road Conditions: San Felipe to Puertecitos

I thought I might offer some information on the conditions of the road south of San Felipe to Puertecitos along the Eastern coast. Hurricane Nora virtually washed away much of the road between these to points. The Mexican authorities have made a commitment to repair the road but as of 4/19/98, there are long stretches that are torturous at best. There are at least eight areas where the road is still washed out. A 4X4 is really the preferred vehicle here. Even those areas where the road remained intact are riddled with cavernous potholes. The good news is that road crews are beginning to resurface some of the "vados" or washes. It is evident that the imporovements will better withstand subsequent flooding.
